Quick iterations, field research and full whiteboards led to the creation of this trend-spotting tool for New Hope. It allows customers to keep up with trends and visualize their potential for success across market segments in the natural food space.
Configuring a cloud-based Single-Sign-On service isn't easy, so I worked with Symplified to give their customers the confidence they needed to jump in. Aside from a more flexible, contemporary visual framework, clear messaging and notifications told users what if they were heading in the right direction. An extensive revamp of their Information Architecture helped users feel less intimidated by the seemingly endless configuration options.
Medtronic's surgical software and touchscreen displays are used by brain, ENT and spine surgeons around the world. Precision is crucial and my team had to understand the environment in which surgeons performed their tasks. Surgical observations, journey-maps, quick prototypes and hundreds of sketches helped inform the final design.
I worked with CPS energy scientists to understand the algorithms behind creating a 'mix.' I took their massive spreadsheets of data and developed a actionscript/flash-based power-mixer that allowed playful exploration of the solution CPS was proposing.
With a background that spans advertising, multimedia production, UI development and corporate education, I have a unique perspective on UX Design. I began my career as a Multimedia Producer for the Air Force's Basic Training program. I then spent over two years designing curriculum for the Employee Development team at USAA. In 2008, I moved to advertising and developed immersive, interactive experiences for CPS Energy, SeaWorld and other clients spanning the medical, tourism and distilled spirits industries.
After working as Lead UX Developer for an energy startup, I moved to Boulder and am constantly finding ways to grow as UX Design leader. I've focused-in on the strategy and research that goes into building great products and enjoy the messy, iterative, convergent/divergent cycles that happen before the 'real' thing is built.
As a somewhat recent transplant to the Boulder area, I've quickly rooted myself in the design community and lead a bi-monthly UI/UX Meetup that focuses on the UX design process. I'm on the board of advisors for a local app development company and enjoy mentorship and public speaking. In my free time, I'm active in the outdoors with my wife and two three kids.
